Who and Where: My name is Nathan James Gilbert. I am a 27 year old Irish/American with French nationality, born, raised and educated in Paris, France. I am bilingual in French/English and am conversational in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. My diplomas include:
OIB Baccalaureate (Scientific track) - France
Bachelor’s in Architecture - University of Kent, UK
Master’s in Design and Visual Culture - IADE, PT
What: Over and above freelance projects (event promotion, real-estate publicity, visual identity, etc.), I worked for DeBonneville-Orlandini, a small but prolific design and brand identity agency based in Paris. I produced content for big name Radio and TV stations such as NRJ, BFMTV and RMC, taking on large scale projects by myself such as the visual identity and web/print production for the 2017 NRJ DJ Awards.
Why: I am a very inquisitive, curious individual. It seems I cannot keep myself from pondering about life and our human nature. I feel compelled to approach buildings/people/nature and look at their details, try to piece them apart, or rearrange things as to perhaps discover underlying meaning or truth. This gives substance to my work.
How: I like incremental and procedural workflows. Or I can just wing it beautifully, whatever suits the brief. I do like to start big and narrow it all down until a coherent, logical and aesthetically pleasing solution is found. I take the time to think about each step, and prefer to produce outputs that do not just fulfill the brief, but push boundaries within reason.
Think outside the box? … what box?
